E-books, audiobooks and e-magazines now available via the shared E-library app
The shared E-library of municipalities offers e-books, audiobooks, and digital magazines. The app is available in your app store from April 29, 2024. E-library is free to use.
Registration
– You can use the E-library service with a mobile app you can download for free.
– You can use E-library if your municipality of residence has joined the E-library service. All municipalities in North Karelia are included.
– You do not need a library card to use the service. When using the app for the first time, you must register with strong identification.
– If you cannot use strong identification, please ask for help from your own library.
Borrowing
– E-library has materials in mostly in Finnish, Swedish and English, with some additional materials in other languages.
– You can borrow an e-book or audiobook for two weeks at a time. After this, it will be returned automatically. You can also return the book before the loan period ends.
– You can read a magazine for two hours at a time.
– There is a limited number of licenses, so you might have to queue for the most popular materials.
– You can place a hold for e-books and audiobooks.
– New material is added to the service every week.
Other electronic services
In addition to E-library, Vaara libraries will still have additional electronic services that you may use with your library card number and PIN (passcode).
– Cineast – movie streaming platform
– PressReader – international newspapers and magazines
– Naxos Music Library, Naxos Music Library Jazz & Naxos Video Library – music streaming platforms
– Rockway – online music lessons
You can also read Finnish newspapers on ePress on the library computers or on your own device when using the library WiFi. You do not need a library card to access ePress.
Please note that there will be no access to Ellibs and eMagz after the new E-library opens.
